GUARDIANSHIP IS NOT THE STATE THAT ISLAM WANTS FOR WOMEN
What we are now advocating is the restoration of Islam back into the lives of men and women after a long time that humanity has spent in various forms of accelerated, development, especially in recent years, where we have come to live in safe (densely) populated cities, where one can and actually should walk in the streets without a weapon. In the past, man walked armed. Nowadays, man who lives in the jungle or in a tent walk armed. We, however, are safe in Medani City, in Omdurman, or in Port Sudan. Actually, there are even laws that prohibit carrying weapons because no one needs them. If the police now encounter someone armed with a sword, it will be confiscated, even his knife will be confiscated. That is because people are not in need of them. Weapons may lead to risky fights. Apparently, people are slowly coming under the rule of law, step-by-step.
When we found ourselves in this society, thanks to God and to the great development that has taken place, we looked into the case of women: Is it actually (the case) that our religion has no other possibility for woman but to remain in her old status, or was that just a small, first, step ahead, from her extremely difficult past, leading to a time of two or three more steps forward? This is one of the important questions. Is Islam’s final say on the status of woman that she is always under the guardianship of man, and she cannot be personally accountable, or entrusted? Is it conceivable that this is the status for humans that Islam wants? It has become clear to us that this is not the case.
Islam is found in the Quran, the entirety of Islam is in the Quran, meaning even the Hadith are in the Quran. Therefore, it is unnecessary to say Islam is in the Quran and in the Hadith. No! Islam is in the Quran, whereas the entirety of the Hadith emanates from the Quran. The Prophet’s life is shaped by the Quran. The Prophet recited and embodied the Quran, and lived the Quran. When the Honorable Aisha was asked about him: how were his moral values? She said: “The Quran was his conduct.” As well, there is our Lord’s praise of the Prophet by saying: “You are of a great moral character” (68: 4).
