The age-old dream of the human caravan is not to send astronauts in their orbit in outer space.. it is to send its individuals - every single individual in his orbit of self-realization. It is high time that this dream be thus reinterpreted. It is also the sacred duty of every man and woman to help intelligently reorientate human endeavour towards the culmination of this pilgrimage.

Ustadh Mahmoud Muhammad Taha Speaking to Women of Their Rights

THEOLOGY HAS DISTORTED THE EXOTERIC CODE AND DISTORTED ISLAM

When you critically examine the reality of women’s issues, you will find that theology has impinged on the very existence of the exoteric code. There are so many forms of social life that are considered by some people to be religious, but they are not. (For example) In the courts at the present time, you will find theological provisions derived from interpretative judgments, which have alienated people from religion. These include provisions such as how the woman’s husband is not responsible for the treatment of her illness; if a woman becomes sick her relatives should come and take her for treatment, and if she recovers, her husband has the right to come and take her home. Also, if a woman dies at the home of her husband, he is neither responsible for providing the shroud nor enshrouding or burying her, but her relatives should come and take her. This is an example of provisions currently in force in the courts. In fact, these are not (even) the Islamic code. They are distortions or even an abandonment of the Personal Statute Code. There are many other alienations coming from the many interpretations derived from the theological rulings that are a subversion of the exoteric code. In our opinion, these rulings are bizarre, and cannot be religious. Furthermore, they are inhumane. Therefore, it is necessary that we go back to the origin of religion (Islam) to deal with this matter.
